Kinrara Oval in high demand

THE Kinrara Oval could be in for a busy period over the next few months as the Malaysian Cricket Association's (MCA) plans to popularise the sport gathers steam.

Malaysia is almost certain to stage the World Cricket League (WCL) Division Four tournament and has also emerged as a contender to host the Pakistan-Australia one-day and Twenty20 series in September.

After winning the ACC Under-16 Elite Cup at Kinrara earlier this month, Malaysia will be hosting the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup on June 23-July 1 which will also feature Test-playing countries India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The national team have won two successive promotions in the WCL and have been offered the hosting job for Division Four comprising Denmark, Tanzania, Nepal, United States, Singapore and Malaysia.

The tournament is scheduled for September but should MCA win the right to host Pakistan's home series against Australia, the WCL competition will be pushed back to January 2013.
