NEPAL clinched the World Cricket League Division Four title with an eight-wicket win over the United States in the final at the Kinrara Oval yesterday as Malaysia ended a woeful campaign in fifth place.
Basanta Regmi (5-20) led the way for Nepal, who ended the six-team tournament unbeaten, after dismissing the US for 145 runs in 48.1 overs.
Gyanendra Malla (66) hit seven fours and three sixes in a 93-run partnership with Subash Khakurel (40 not out) as Nepal reached 145-2 in 28 overs.
Both Nepal and the US will be promoted to Division Three while Singapore, who beat Denmark by five wickets to finish third, remain in Division Four with the Danes.
Malaysia and Tanzania were relegated to Division Five though the hosts signed off with a five-wicket win at the Bayuemas Oval in Klang to finish fifth.
An unbroken 103-run partnership between Shafiq Sharif (57) and Khizar Hayat Durrani (50) allowed Malaysia to overhaul Tanzania's 187 runs in 49.4 overs by reaching 188-5 off 45.5 overs.
