ARCHERY: Recurve team make first round exit

A DAY after Cheng Chu Sian reached the individual semi-finals, the national archers were dumped out of the men's recurve team event in the first round of the World Cup in Shanghai yesterday.

Chu Sian and Khairul Anuar Mohamed, who reached the fourth round on Thursday, could not produce a repeat performance, combining with Haziq Kamaruddin in a 224-222 defeat to Taiwan.

World No 35 Chu Sian still has a chance of finishing the tournament on a high, when he attempts to win his first World Cup medal in the bronze playoff against Thomas Aubert of France today.

Chu Sian, whose best finish in a World Cup was fourth in Shanghai three years ago, will attempt to become just the second Malaysian to win a medal in a World Cup individual event after World No 6 Khairul Anuar won silver in Shanghai last year.
