    DIVING: Pandelela in line for a medal

    NATIONAL Sportswoman of the Year Pandelela Rinong stayed on track to winning a medal at the Montreal leg of the FINA Grand Prix when she qualified for the women's 10m platform final on Friday.

    Pandelela, who in the absence of China's elite divers is expected to challenge for honours in the event, scored 67.50, 69.60, 70.40, 64.00, 72.00 for a 343.50 total to finish third in her semi-final group.

    The 19-year-old had finished fifth in the preliminaries with a total score of 323.25 to make the semi-finals.

    The men's 3m springboard saw China-born Huang Qiang earn a spot in the final when he finished third in his semi-final group. Huang managed scores of 72.85, 72.00, 57.75, 70.95, 83.30 and 68.00 for a total of 424.85 to finish behind Canada's Alexandre Despatie (481.20) and Spain's Javier Illana (451.10).

    Malaysia's other representative in the semi-final, Yeoh Ken Nee, failed to make the cut for the final when he was placed sixth after his six attempts of 69.75, 39.00, 79.90, 55.50, 74.80 and 74.25 totalling 393.20 placed him last in his group.

    The final of the men's 3m springboard will also be held today. By Fadhli Ishak
