SIME Darby extended its sponsorship of the LPGA Malaysia, which will see the annual golf tournament continue until 2015 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC).
With the 2012 edition of the event being the last year of the conglomerate's three-year engagement, the announcement provided a welcome boost for golf in the region.
Datuk Wahab Maskan, Group Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of SD Property, said: "We are indeed honoured to be involved with this tournament for the third year running.
"The Sime Darby LPGA has without doubt, set a benchmark in the golf arena both regionally and internationally. We look forward to another successful LPGA event and hope that our efforts will ensure that the sport of golf continues to grow across Asia for years to come."
This year's tournament, which will be held at KLGCC on Oct 11-14, promises a four-day spectacular showcase with a stellar field in the 72-hole stroke play, no cut event, competing for US$1.9 million (RM5.7m)
The meet will feature the top 62 stars from the LPGA Tour and 10 sponsor invites - including four players from the local and regional qualifier events on Sept 4-5.
Defending champion and World No 2 Na Yeon Choi has confirmed her participation.
