MALAYSIAN Weightlifting Federation (MWF) president Zafarul Akbar Kassim has urged fans to remain patient as the federation attempts to resolve the issue regarding the nation's spot at the London Olympics after it was revoked by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
Zafarul said that despite pressure from various parties asking the federation to appeal the IWF decision, nothing can be done until an official reason is issued by the world governing body.
Malaysia had last week been removed from the list of qualifiers for the Olympics on the IWF website with the nation's sole spot in the women's competition being given to Vietnam.
"We have yet to receive a reply from the IWF as to why our place has been given to Vietnam despite the MWF and the Olympic Council of Malaysia both having sent letters to them asking for clarification," said Zafarul.
"As I have said before, this is a bizarre situation for us as we have been given both a congratulatory letter on clinching a place at the Games and a letter stating that we had not failed any doping tests at the Asian Championships just a fortnight ago.
"Until we receive a response, we cannot appeal to them as we do not know what has happened, and can only take appropriate action once we have a clearer view of the situation.
"There is a possibility this could just be an administrative mix-up, so we hope all parties will be patient."
Malaysia had clinched their sole Olympic qualification spot by virtue of finishing sixth in the women's team event at the Asian Championships in Pyongtaek, South Korea last April.
The MWF had subsequently selected Azizah Fadzil to represent Malaysia in London. By Fadhli Ishak
