RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS: Clean sweep within FT's reach
TAI Qing Tong and her teammates are threatening to run riot at the Malaysia Games rhythmic gymnastics competition after leading the Federal Territories to the team gold in Kuantan yesterday.
Qing Tong, Fatin Zakirah Jalany and N. Shasangari Sivaneswary finished 1-2-3 in the individual qualification which could possibly lead to a sweep of all six gold medals on offer at the Pahang Sports Complex Gymnastics Stadium.
FT won the team gold with a 236.914-points total, leaving defending champions Selangor far behind on 226.131 while Pahang edged Terengganu to the bronze on 203.520.
"We are very happy to win the gold," said Qing Tong, 13.
"I hope to do better tomorrow (today). I dropped the ball today when I threw it a bit too far forward and couldn't catch it.
"Tomorrow I think it will be between me and Fathin (in the individual all-round)."
FT team manager Lo Joo Sim said all four gymnasts, including reserve Yang Dina Khistina Kamarul Bahrin, are making their Malaysia Games debut.
"They started training for the Malaysia Games six months ago. We expected to get the team gold and of course, we are looking at winning all six.
"They have performed to the best of their ability and will probably vie for the medals among themselves," said Joo Sim.
After today's individual all-round event, four more events follow tomorrow in the ball, ribbon, clubs and ring.
