CUB PRIX: Zamri and Azlan make sacrifice for Sugo action
MOHD Zamri Baba and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman will sacrifice their Hari Raya celebrations to compete in Round 6 of the MFJ All-Japan Championship at the Sportsland Sugo this weekend.
Both riders will compete in the ST600 category as part of their preparations for the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) where they are listed among the favourites for the SuperSports 600cc title.
Zamri, who won his first chequered flag this year in Zhuhai (Round 3), is third overall with 100 points, just 13 points off leader Ryuichi Kiyonari and 10 points shy of defending champion Katsuaki Fujiwara. Azlan, who represents MUSASHi Boon Siew Honda Racing, is in fourth position.
"Track mileage has become very critical at this point, especially with Kiyonari and Fujiwara leading the standings.
"This is why I'm sacrificing my Raya celebrations to race in Sugo. I need all the experience I can get to help improve my pace for the upcoming ARRC round," said Zamri on the reason for the team competing in the All-Japan race.
Azlan, who will ride the Honda CBR600RR this weekend, said: "Things did not turn out well in Zhuhai. We expected to get on the podium for both races but failed.
As a result my position dropped in the standings. We hope to regain the momentum we once had by competing against Japan's best riders and bring it to Autopolis (Round 4)."
