F1: Ecclestone hopes for quick Nurburgring decision

FORMULA One chief Bernie Ecclestone has called for a quick decision to be made on the fate of cash-strapped circuit the Nurburgring, in an interview with German regional newspaper Rhein-Zeitung which appeared yesterday.

"The negotiations have to be finished in the next few weeks, if a race is going to take place in 2013," said the boss of Formula One Management (FOM), which holds the commercial rights for Formula One.

The Nurburgring's majority shareholder revealed on Wednesday that the circuit is E13 million (RM52 million) in debt, leaving them with no option but to instruct the track's management board to start an insolvency process.

Since 2009, the famous venue has shared hosting rights for the German Grand Prix with Hockenheim, which is hosting today's edition of the race. AFP
