MOTOR RACING: Fairuz back in action this weekend

FAIRUZ Fauzy has confirmed that he will return to racing at this weekend’s SuperGT International Series Malaysian Round at the Sepang Circuit.

The 30-year-old admitted his delight at being able to return to racing and hoped for a promising start with the Thunder Asia Racing team in a wild card entry only for this weekend’s round of the Japan-based series.

Fairuz will partner Japan’s Hiroko Noshida as they share duties to bring the team’s Mosler MT900M towards team principal Raja Norzaini Raja Mohd Noor’s confident target of a top 10 finish in the GT300 class.

“It feels good to be back racing, especially on home ground,” said Fairuz, who spent last year as test driver for the Lotus-Renault GP Formula One team.

“This is also actually my first time racing in a closed cockpit GT-spec car, so I’m quite excited about it  having never driven it before.”

Fairuz said this weekend’s experience will determine whether the Super GT would be a viable next step in his career. By Arnaz M. Khairul
