MOTOR RACING: Nabil takes double pole in Belgium

NABIL Jan Al Jeffri consolidated his grip on the JK Racing Asia Series (JKRAS) championship lead when he bagged a double pole position ahead of Rounds Seven and Eight in Spa Francorchamps, Belgium yesterday.

Having topped the time sheets in the first practice session on Thursday, the 19-year-old Eurointernational driver added a further two points that came with the two fastest times in qualifying.

The Malaysian clocked two minutes 32.609 seconds for his fastest time in the series' first visit to the famous Belgian circuit, running as a support event for the Spa Francorchamps 24-Hours race.

Nabil was consistently half a second ahead of closest challenger and teammate Aston Hare.

"I really love the circuit. Two poles... now I hope to win the races tomorrow (today)," said Nabil, who won Round Five at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France three weeks ago.

"I was just very comfortable with the car and the circuit was fast flowing everywhere. I wasn't pushing as hard as I was in Paul Ricard, I just drove the car really well I think."

The work on simulators to prepare for this weekend at the Spa seemed to have worked well for Nabil.

"I spent hours on the simulator everyday before coming to Spa. The practice we had was just 30 minutes, I spent a lot of time on the simulators and watching videos and stuff like that. These preparations were key for me so that I can come here to just do the job," said Nabil.
