MOHD Zulfahmi Khairuddin got his weekend off to a promising start after clocking the fastest time in wet conditions in the first practice session ahead of tomorrow's San Marino Grand Prix at the Misano Circuit yesterday.
Though the 21-year-old later faltered to 10th fastest in the dry second practice session, he showed he was ready to put the Misano ghost to rest, having crashed at the circuit last year.
Currently seventh in the Moto3 championship standings, Zulfahmi clocked one minute 56.659 seconds to top the first practice session on the 4.064km circuit.
The legendary circuit was recently renamed the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in memory of the late Italian MotoGP rider who died following a crash in the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang last year.
The second session saw Zulfahmi of the AirAsia-SIC-Ajo Motorsport team take his KTM machine to 10th fastest with a time of 1:54.621s.
That session was topped by Italy's Romano Fennati of Team Italia FMI with a time of 1:49.965s on board his FTR Honda.
Zulfahmi will be getting down to business in qualifying today, where he has signaled his aim to park himself on the front row and end his wait for a podium spot in the race tomorrow.
