WARSAW: Russia coach Dick Advocaat predicted his side would have a much tougher game against Euro 2012 co-hosts Poland in their Group A game today than they did in their opening 4-1 humbling of Czech Republic.
Poland, who are co-hosting the tournament with Ukraine, opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw with Euro 2004 champions Greece which saw both sides finish the game with 10 men.
Russia by contrast looked like potential champions as they ran amok against a useful Czech side, but, the experienced Advocaat said that the different style deployed by the Poles would not allow the Russians such freedom.
"I don't see any reason that the match with Poland can be easy for our team," said the 64-year-old Dutchman, who steps down after the tournament to take over at Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
"The match with the hosts will be completely different than our previous match with the Czechs.
"We will face opponents, who play a completely different style of football. I hope we will obtain a result similar to the result of our previous encounter but the upcoming match will definitely be much more tough for our team.
"Our strength is our team play but we can say exactly the same about the Polish side, who played quality football in the match with Greece.
"They played really well in the first half, created several good chances and scored but lost their way after the interval." AFP
