ALLIANZ Malaysia's search for young football talents to be part of the Allianz Junior Football Camp in Munich, Germany, ended yesterday with trial matches held over two days at Padang SUK, Shah Alam, Selangor.

"This is the first time in four years that Allianz Malaysia will be part of the camp in Munich and we received more than 1,000 Malaysian entries.  We are very happy to see so many young and talented teenagers here today (yesterday)," said Lim Li Meng, group chief market management officer of Allianz Malaysia Berhad.

The journey for these young football enthusiasts began on May 22,  after Allianz announced the global company initiative.

"Today's (yesterday's) match saw teenagers shortlisted by a panel of former national football players including K. Gunalan, Sharin Majid and Lim Chuan Chin as well as representative coaches from Allianz Malaysia.

"These teenagers were selected based on the awareness of basic and advance football technique or knowledge which has various criteria and pointers," added  Li Meng.

The trial match    saw players  divided into teams of seven  who then competed with each other in a 10-minute match.

After all participants had the opportunity to show off their skills, the coaches-cum-judges were given a task to shortlist   39 players.

They then played in a 11-a-side for 20 minutes each, and the coaches    picked the top 22   based on   skills and techniques.

The 22 players will enter the final match today  to play against Selangor's Under-17 team at Padang SUK, Shah Alam.

The shortlisted players will each have their turn to display their skills for the full 90-minute match.

The final two winners will be selected   for  the fourth International Allianz Junior Football Camp, on Aug 30-Sept 3.
