FOOTBALL EXTRA: Tickets for Arsenal match selling well

TICKET sales for the July 24 friendly between Malaysia and former English Premier League champions, Arsenal are picking up with 18,000 tickets already snapped up by fans.

"Sales have been encouraging and I am confident about 40,000 tickets will be sold by next week," said San Boon Wah, the managing director of ProEvents Group, after the announcement of the "Super Gunner Challenge" winners in Subang yesterday.

"I think ticket sales will be better than last year's friendly where 58,000 fans turned up for the match at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil."

On whether ProEvents has inspected the condition of the National Stadium, which is under renovation, Boon Wah said it is nearly ready except for some maintenance work.

Abdul Hakeem Aiman Affandi and Anis Adiba Othman were the contest winners yesterday.

They won VIP hospitality and meet-and-greet tickets each and also an all-expenses paid trip to Hong Kong for the July 29 friendly between Arsenal and Kitchee FC.

"I have been dreaming about this moment ever since I started supporting Arsenal 12 years ago. I have always wanted to meet the players, so when I learnt about this contest, I jumped at the chance," said Abdul Hakeem.

Anis, the overall winner, said it is a dream come true to meet the Gunners.

"I can't wait to greet Thomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott here. I've been supporting Arsenal since 2008 and saw them the first time when they came here last year," she said.

ProEvents Group chief executive officer Juliam Kam said the winners were picked by the club.

"We submitted the shortlisted entries to the club's base in London. They selected the contest winners," he said.

Tickets, priced at RM58, RM68, RM108 and RM388, are available at all Ticketpro outlets. By Ajitpal Singh
