FOOTBALL: Shocker from Johor FC's Arthuro

BRAZILIAN hit man Arthur Henrique (Arthuro) dropped a bombshell on Johor FC by pulling out from the team on the eve of their Super League match against Sarawak in Kuching today.

Instead, Arthuro took a 1.30am flight to Brazil this morning after declaring he is "not fit and in the right frame of mind" to play due to serious personal problems.

Team manager Wan Nizam Wan Omar said the management had to give Arthuro one-month no pay leave.

Arthuro will also not be available for the matches against Sabah (Tuesday), T-Team (July 7), Terengganu (July 10) and Lions XII (July 14).

"Arthuro has not been himself since his wife returned to Brazil following the death of her father who was shot dead," said Wan Nizam.

In fact, Wan Nizam revealed that Arthuro has asked to be released from his contract.

"We did not entertain his request because he has a contract with us till the end of the season.

"When told he will have to pay compensation to Johor FC if he wants to end his contract, Arthuro softened his stand and promised to be back for the Malaysia Cup.

"He has also been skipping training of late. It is also unfair to other players who have been training hard to get into the team.

"Hopefully, Arthuro will keep his word and return for the Malaysia Cup. If he does not, we will cross the bridge when the time comes." By Rizal Abdullah
