EVERYTHING points to a final contested by Frenz United Red and Frenz United Blue as the inaugural Frenz Trophy Under-14 Junior League football competition, co-organised by Frenz United Football Academy and the Pahang FA, reaches the semi-final stage.
However, defore entertaining thoughts of gracing the final at the UiTM Shah Alam Stadium on July 1, first they need to negotiate tricky semi-final ties on Friday.
Frenz United Red will play SMK Meru of Klang while Frenz United Blue take on Victoria Institution at INSPEN Stadium, Bangi.
In the quarter-finals, Frenz United Red whipped Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) 4-0, thanks to goals from Mohammad Shafiq Heelmi Zainol Fikri (10th minute), Muhammad Na'aim Razak (15th minute), Hafizuddin Md Zuki (49th) and Masir Lausing (60th).
SMK Meru booked their semi-final ticket with a similar scoreline over Penang Free School with Muhamad Hakim Kamarulzaman (third, 22nd), Muhammad Syahrul Aizat Anis Roslan (27th) and Muhammad Syazrul Akmal Wahab (56th) getting their names on the scoresheet.
At the UKM Stadium in Bangi, Victoria Institution needed a penalty shootout to overcome SMK Seri Tanjong of Kuala Selangor after both teams failed to break the deadlock.
While five VI players were up to their task, it was a day to forget for Amirul Ashraf Abu Bakar. His missed penalty meant SMK Seri Tanjong were shown the exit.
VI face Frenz United Blue who beat SMK Tunku Ampuan Durah thanks to Mohd Ruzaini Rusli's solitary goal in the 27th minute, in the semi-final.
Offering a total RM100,000 as prize money, the Frenz Trophy Under-14 Junior League 2012 kicked off on May 4 and will culminate with the final which is scheduled to be attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin.
The final will be shown live over Astro Arena 801.
