FT plot more shocks

SURPRISE packages Federal Territories aim to deliver a knockout blow to defending champions Terengganu as they eye a repeat of their 2010 run to the semi-finals in the Malaysia Games football quarter-finals today.

Malaysia GamesFT, made up largely of President's Cup players from Sime Darby, Armed Forces and Kuala Lumpur, were not given a chance by many to make an impact in Kuantan with the focus trained largely on the likes of Selangor, Perak, Terengganu and Pahang.

But the squad handled by Kuala Lumpur Super League coach Razip Ismail finished top of Group D unbeaten and even managed a 1-1 draw with Negri Sembilan in their final preliminary fixture despite six reserves starting.

"We are prepared to meet anybody," said a confident Razip. "We have reached our first target of making the quarter-finals but it won't be easy to make the semi-finals.

"The team have shown improvement and people are beginning to take notice of FT, especially after we beat Kelantan 2-0 (in the opening match)."

There is also a small matter of getting even with Terengganu, who eliminated FT on penalties in the 2010 semi-finals in Malacca before going on to win their third consecutive football gold.

TODAY -- Q-finals: Pahang v Negri Sembilan (Darulmakmur Stadium, 8.45pm), Sabah v Selangor, Perak v Perlis, FT v Terengganu. Matches at Kuantan MC grounds at 4.15pm, unless stated.
