RARING TO GO: Hazard seals RM157 million Chelsea switch
EDEN Hazard has revealed a personal chat with owner Roman Abramovich helped secure his STG32 million (RM157 million) switch to Chelsea.
The Belgium playmaker has rubber-stamped his move to Stamford Bridge after completing a medical.
Chelsea have confirmed a fee with Lille and personal terms with Hazard have been agreed for the transfer of the talented 21-year-old.
The deal is expected to be ratified when the French transfer window re-opens on June 13 before Hazard meets up with his new teammates for pre-season training in early July.
LONDON: "I spoke with Abramovich, he is very simple and loves football.
"We were on the same wavelength, he wants to confirm Chelsea's position at the top," said Hazard.
"Chelsea have made a good investment for me, but I did not put any pressure on them."
The highly rated forward claims he could easily have ended up at Old Trafford had Chelsea not grabbed Champions League glory against Bayern Munich last month, revealing he even spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson.
"I've always wanted to play in England, there was a struggle between Chelsea and United, but to me Chelsea have the best project," added Hazard.
"I was in advanced contact with both clubs and I spoke to both coaches.
"I want to be playing in the Champions League every year.
"Initially, Chelsea were sixth and not qualified for the Champions League.
"But when they won the Champions League I said to myself, 'Why not Chelsea?'
"The team are young and I have a better chance to play. At 21, Real Madrid or Barcelona would have been more difficult for me.
"If I play well enough at Chelsea I could win my place in the starting team and my priority is to play."
He also told Chelsea's website: "I'm delighted to finally arrive here, it's a wonderful club and I can't wait to get started."
The club added: "Chelsea Football Club are delighted to announce we have agreed terms with Lille for the transfer of Eden Hazard.
"The 21-year-old Belgian international has agreed personal terms with the club and (on Monday) passed a medical examination.
"He will join the club in July when the players return for pre-season training."
Hazard is Chelsea's second summer signing after Germany midfielder Marko Marin, and they are closing in on a third as a move for Porto forward Hulk reaches an advanced stage.
Chelsea officials are confident of securing the Brazil striker's signature in the coming weeks, and Hulk appeared to pave the way for a move to Stamford Bridge.
He said: "I have won many titles in the past four years at Porto, and I think that I have a great relationship with everyone.
"If the time has come to move on, I'll do so with a good feeling.
"I am sure they will understand the motives if I decide to leave." Daily Mail
