MALAYSIA will feature two teams -- Yellow and Blue -- in the Yamaha Asean Cup Under-13 Championship, which starts on Friday, at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya.
Others in the fray are defending champions Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and India.
The Yellow team, comprising Bukit Jalil Sports School students, will be handled by coach Haris Lajid while Matthew Holland will be in charge of the Blue side, parading players mostly from the 1Malaysia Cardiff City (1MCC) League.
Lajid said his team have been preparing for the tournament since January.
"We have been playing in the Education Ministry league to keep ourselves fit for this tournament. I believe we can do well," said Lajid at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya yesterday.
Holland, meanwhile conducted an open trial to pick his team.
"We have several players fresh from the 1MCC league. We hope to make an impression," said Holland.
The six teams will be drawn into two groups, with the respective champions qualifying for the final.
Malaysia's best finish was runners-up to Vietnam in the inaugural tournament in 2008. They failed to progress to the knockout stage in last year's edition.
