MAT Zan Mat Aris is resigned to the fact that his days as Terengganu head coach are as good as over.
Although he is officially on leave of absence until May 15, the 54-year-old coach still has 18 months left on his two-year contract but believes his services are no longer required.
"The management did not say anything about bringing in a new coach when I last met them yesterday (Monday) before they left for Hong Kong with the team who will play Kitchee in the AFC Cup tomorrow (today).
"But I have heard enough to know that they are looking for a new coach and if I am not mistaken, they may already have someone waiting to take over my position," said Mat Zan.
Mat Zan, who replaced Irfan Bakti at the end of last season, said he suspected his time was up when Terengganu stumbled in the FA Cup semi-finals against Premier League side Sime Darby FC.
"I wish I had more time to work with the team but I guess time is one luxury I just cannot afford.
"But I am not blaming the management for doing what they did as they were also under pressure," he said.
The former Pos Malaysia coach said he will now have wait for the team to return from Hong Kong before resuming his "talks" with the management.
"My thoughts and prayers are with my boys in Hong Kong and I hope they beat Kitchee and come back as Group F champions."
