MODEL:Seremban to have a new underground car park complex similar to Kuala Lumpur’s Dataran Merdeka

An underground car park complex will be built at the Seremban Municipal Council field, here.

The complex, which will be able to accommodate about 2,000 cars, will also house a modern food court.

Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the location of the complex was strategic as it was in the heart of town, and expected to reduce parking woes there.

"We want to have a car park complex similar to Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur, with the field above it intact.

"The two-level underground car park will be easily accessible to everyone, especially those who want want to park their vehicles here and take public transport to other places.

"The car park is within walking distance of the Terminal One bus station and the Seremban train station," he said.

He said the project consultants would brief him on details of the project, including the cost, soon.

He said the parking woes in Seremban needed to be resolved before it could become a city, a plan he announced last week.

Meanwhile, the underground car park is welcomed by townsfolk, who hope to see the project  start soon.

Halim Hanapi, 31, agreed that the new car park couldn't be at a better location and that it would help ease parking woes in town.

"Location is important.  If it's unsuitable, it would be pointless as no one would park there," he said.

Amirul Abdullah, 29, said the state should also provide a shuttle service to transfer motorists to other locations.

"This would encourage more people to park their vehicles there and help reduce traffic congestion in town," he added.
