AT THEIR DOORSTEP:SS3 residents applied for 1MCA insurance scheme, welfare aid and even citizenship without hassle
SENIOR citizens recently found it easy to register themselves for the 1Malaysian Chinese Association member insurance scheme, apply for welfare aid or even citizenship, thanks to the mobile counter set up during a Parents Day celebration in SS3, here.
More than 370 people, including children, were present at the SS3/14 basketball court for the event organised by PJ Utara Wanita MCA, in collaboration with Selangor Barisan Nasional. Also present at the event officiated by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai were Selangor Wanita Umno chief Datuk Raja Ropiah Raja Abdullah and PJ Utara Wanita Barisan Nasional chief Chua Fong Ling.
Barisan Nasional's Kampung Tunku coordinator and state liaison officer, Kelvin Chong Seng Foo, said such mobile counters can be set up at any non-governmental organisation's annual general meeting or residents' association's gathering upon request.
"While this celebration was to extend our gratitude to parents, we would also like to take this opportunity to help residents concerning Federal government issues and services," he said.
Under the insurance scheme, new MCA members below 75 years of age will get RM4,000 upon death or RM10,000 for accidents. There is no age limit for old members.
The welfare department helped to process the applications of senior citizens and the disabled.
"We will accompany the mobile unit on every ground visit," said welfare department investigating officer, Hussin Uda Itam.
Eligible single mothers will receive aid of not more than RM450 monthly, eligible senior citizens will get RM300 monthly, unemployed disabled above 18 will be entitled to RM150 monthly, and employed disabled with pay of less than RM1,200 will get RM300 monthly.
Lim said the ministry will be able to provide allocation for the second round of Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia.
Meanwhile, 73-year-old SS3 resident N. Narayanasamy expressed dissatisfaction over the poor maintenance of the basketball court by the authorities in the area.
He also hoped that the Human Resources Ministry will look into Social Security Organisation (Socso) Invalidity Pension applications.
"I suffer from prostate cancer and my wife had a limb amputated. Our applications were rejected without explanation," he said.
Sungei Way resident Yong Pow Hsing, who came with his wife Ng Ah Moi and friend Lee Fock Loe, would like to see such events carried out in their neighbourhood, too.
