JUST ONE:The last remaining councillor of the group of 24 will be sworn in on June 20
THE circle of Selayang Municipal councillors for the 2012/2013 term will be completed next week when the one remaining councillor is sworn in.
MPS president Datuk Zainal Abidin Aala said Yogasigamany Krishnasamy, councillor for JKP Zone 19, which covers the Rawang area, could only be sworn in on June 20 as he was overseas.
Zainal said of the 24 councillors in total, 21 were sworn in last month. Two were sworn in on Monday, leaving only Yogasigamany.
When asked about the delay of the appointment of the three councillors, Zainal said it was the prerogative of the state government to choose the councillors.
"The state government chooses the councillors and we cannot explain the delay as only they would know the details," he said after the swearing-in of the two councillors at the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) office in Selayang.
"All councillors have a big role to play in keeping Selayang clean. We are glad that the list of councillors is complete and we look forward to working together as a full team," said Zainal.
Councillor Jurazim Isma Junaidi, 36, has been put in charge of JKP Zone 21, which covers the areas of Bukit Lagong, Desa Manpuri, Taman Ehsan and Wangsa Permai.
The former Selangor TV communications unit executive, who is serving his first term, said he was eager to assist and serve the residents in his area.
"There are many issues in those areas, such as garbage collection and cleanliness, that need immediate attention.
"I have given up my day job and will be working as a full-time councillor to attend to the needs of the residents," he said.
Another first-time councillor Ng Kok Chuan, 49, is in charge of JKP Zone 22, which covers Matang Pagar and Kampung Melayu.
The businessman said his first duty was to look into the flood situation in his area.
"We will be looking into clogged drains and potholes. We will also have to look into the flood issue here," he said.
