City Hall to unveil car park plan

FINALISING DETAILS: Mayor says all parties will be consulted before project proceeds

KUALA LUMPUR: CITY Hall will soon unveil the plan for a seven-storey car park and community hall in Jalan Thambipillai, Brickfields, here.

Mayor Datuk Ahmad Phesal Talib said the city council is in the midst of preparing the design for the car park.

"We are still finalising the details. Once the plan is complete, we will engage with the SJK (T) Vivekanada Parent-Teacher Association for their feedback. We want to ensure that the we consult all parties before proceeding with the project," he said after visiting SJK Kuen Cheng (2), here.

 Ahmad Phesal said his visit to SJK Kuen Cheng (2) was to see the progress of the "Wave the Jalur Gemilang" competition in conjunction with the 55th Merdeka Day celebrations organised by City Hall.

He praised the schoolchildren and teachers for putting in their effort to create a massive flag with 1,526 Merdeka Day celebration messages using square manila cards.

"We are pleased to see that Kuen Cheng has taken the initiative to create a very patriotic atmosphere among the students here.  We can see by their creativeness that they are proud to fly high the Jalur Gemilang," he said.

Ahmad Phesal said that City Hall always encourages business operators and city folk to participate in the Merdeka Day celebrations. He said that this year, the city council flew 65,000 flags compared with 45,000 which was flown around the city last year.

"We hope that more people will join in the month-long celebration and fly the Jalur Gemilang," he said.

 The "Wave The Jalur Gemilang" competition covers building categories such as government Buildings (including schools), housing (public and private) and private buildings and complexes (including banks and hotels).

The judging and scoring criteria will be based on the following aspects, such as creative installation of Jalur Gemilang (40 per cent); number and size of Jalur Gemilang (30); aesthetics presentation of the building (20); and cleanliness and landscaping (10).

The competition will end on Sept 16. Judges will making surprise visits during this period to all the establishments.

The prizes for each category are RM5,000 and a certificate for the champion, RM3,000 and certificate for second place and RM2,000 and a certificate for third place.

There will also be five consolation prizes of RM500 and a certificate.
