Emergency team on call 24 hours

SUBANG JAYA: The Subang Jaya Municipal Council's Emergency Response Team (ERT) will be on call for 24 hours until Sunday.

The team is made up of 35 personnel, including three coordinating officers who are the council department heads.

It can be reached at 03-8024 7700.

At any time, there will be six members manning the ERT nerve centre at the council headquarters in USJ 5, calls will be picked up within three rings.  The expected response time is 30 minutes for Subang Jaya; 45 minutes for Puchong and Kinrara  and one hour for Seri Kembangan.

Council president Datuk Asmawi Kasbi said the team had undergone intensive training for the past two months, including an attachment with the Fire and Rescue Department.

"They are the first on the  scene to help before the other rescue teams arrive. They are trained in life saving,  cardiopulmonary resuscitation,  first aid and fire fighting," he said.

During the festive period, the ERT will respond to distress calls involving road accidents, fire, floods or storms as well as to complaints on   faulty lamps and damaged roads and coordinate assistance during emergencies.

The ERT will also be monitoring the council's closed circuit televisions, cleanliness in the municipality and join in enforcement activities.

The council has two ERT compact pick-up trucks, two boats, floats and floating ropes, a generator set  and electric saws.
