Festive cheer for 44 orphans

KUALA LUMPUR: Takaful Malaysia recently treated 44 orphans from Persatuan Pendidikan Anak-Anak Yatim Lipis to a shopping spree.

Persatuan Pendidikan Anak-Anak Yatim Lipis chairman Nata Yusof said that the   orphans felt privileged to  have been selected for the shopping spree.

"No words can describe how the orphans feel. We are grateful to Takaful Malaysia," said Nata.

Takaful Malaysia group managing director Datuk Mohamed Hassan Kamil said that the  shopping spree is part of  its yearly RM1 million corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.

"Our CSR activities reflect our motto, 'We protect. We Care. We Share'," he said.

The orphans were provided RM250 each to shop  for whatever they wanted, especially their baju raya.

Nur Fadilah Abdullah, 10, said  she was happy to be able to choose her favourite colour for her baju raya. "I am  excited I got my orange baju kurung," said Nur Fadilah.

Mohd Iman Aminuddin Jaafar, 11, said he got himself a complete set of new baju Melayu this year.

All in all, Takaful Malaysia  contributed about RM18,000 towards the programme.

This includes the RM250 for the 44 children for the shopping spree, RM50 for duit raya,  for each child, and the rest for transport for the trip from Kuala Lipis to Kuala Lumpur, as well as accommodation, food and beverages for the outing.
