AMAZING:80-year-old wins medal in KL championships

LAWRENCE Cho, who has 11 grandchildren, proved that age was not a barrier to participating or winning in competitions  when the 80-year-old finished third in the Kuala Lumpur Bodybuilding Championships recently.

The KL bodybuilder said his main objective in taking up bodybuilding was not to win medals but rather to maintain his fitness.

“When I compete in any championship, my main objective is not winning because I am already aged and other competitors are much younger. I just want to be healthy,” said  Cho, who has four children, when met at the Kuala Lumpur Bodybuilding Championships, held at the OCM Indoor Complex.

Cho, who won third place in the Super Masters 55 and above category, said his participation could also inspire his children and grandchildren to be healthy and fit since 50 family members were at the arena to watch him in action.

The above-55  category was won by 56-year-old Mohamad Razali,  while Henry Lim, 65, took the runner-up spot .

Meanwhile, middleweight category winner Dinesh Kumar, 27, beat 12  champions to be crowned ‘Mr Kuala Lumpur 2012’.

Dinesh said he was determined to win the overall title after failing last year.

“Last year I won the middleweight category but not the overall title. So winning the overall title this year is a great delight for me,” he said.
