From KLM, tulips with love

KUALA LUMPUR: For Mothers Day, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has flown in fresh tulips from the Netherlands.

The KLM Annual Charity Tulip Sale will take place on May 12 at the Concourse Level of Sungei Wang Plaza, starting at 11am.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines country manager Estee Ng said the proceeds from this year's sale would benefit the Special Children Society of Ampang.

"With 3,500 stalks for sale, including the double tulip, we hope to raise RM28,000 for charity this year," said Ng.

The society has about 75 special individuals aged from 2 to 36.

"The donation will help us to get new computers as well as to set up a library at the centre," said Special Children Society of Ampang president Christine Wong.

The home provides individualised education programmes and group sessions to impart interpersonal and communication skills, behaviour programmes, early intervention sessions for children 3 to 6 years old, pre-vocational and life skills training, and leisure and recreation.

Rabobank Malaysia is contributing to the charity effort for the fourth year.

"Rabobank is committed to contribute RM1 for every tulip sold, so the consumer pays RM5 for a stalk instead of RM6," said Rabobank Malaysia country business director Kao Chee Ming.

On top of that, the bank has also pledged RM2 for every tulip sold, bringing their contribution this year to RM10,500.

Sungei Wang Plaza has been the official venue sponsor for the past 14 years. Online community Cari.com is the official online media.

"Fifteen years and still going strong, the KLM Annual Charity Tulip Sale is a success thanks to the generous support of the public and our event partners," said Ng.
