KUALA LUMPUR: Kemas (Community Development Department), together with the Federal Territory Health Department, recently organised a two-day Healthy Eating Mini Carnival at PPR Kerinchi, Pantai Dalam.

Kemas director Khairuddin Md Nasir said  the event was to have people  take care of their health, and not neglect it as is common among urbanites.

Twelve booths were set up to hold activities such as a cooking competition, health talk and quiz, and sports.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin  launched the event  and donated 50 wheelchairs to the  elderly  in  the area.

Raja Nong Chik advised residents to use the Taman Bukit Kerinchi recreational park, which will open next month,  to keep fit.

Over 2,000 residents attended the carnival.

Wheelchair recipient Mariam Ibrahim, 77, said she  was grateful to be among the  those to receive a wheelchair.

Maermawati Mohamad, 32, said this carnival brought families and communities together.

"The event is beneficial for everyone. It teaches children  to lead a healthy lifestyle and hopefully, they will practice healthy  habits in the future," she said.
