UNWIND:Philea Resort and Spa offers the perfect getaway for visitors to Malacca
AS you drive into Philea Resort and Spa, about five minutes from the Air Keroh exit of the North-South Expressway, you begin to glimpse a serene and beautiful log resort.
Built on approximately six hectares of land, cobblestone paths lead to the resort's lobby and cabin-like rooms.
The lobby is furnished with furniture made out of wood salvaged from shipwrecks. Its high ceilings are supported by pillars made from pine wood, and its bar is also mostly built using the remains of a shipwreck.
A special feature of the resort is that it is built without nails. Pine wood supports the whole sturdy structure.
Visitors can either choose a buggy ride, or enjoy a stroll on cobblestone paths surrounded by trees and the sound of waterfalls, to head for their rooms.
Priding itself on being eco-friendly, railway sleepers were recycled and used for pathways. The rooms are equipped with not only air-conditioners, but fans as well.
The resort offers three choices of rooms, namely the Pavilion Rooms, the Philea Suites, and the Royal Villas.
The Pavilion Rooms are furnished with either a king-sized bed or two single beds, a bathroom complete with shower and bath tub, as well as a balcony with a bench for visitors to enjoy the room's view.
Two rooms are available for the disabled, with slopes for wheelchairs, wider doors and disable-friendly bathrooms.
Philea Suites are more spacious, with settees and classic-styled bathrooms. The spacious bathroom comes with a shower, bath tub and television to offer guests a luxurious stay.
With only two units built, the Royal Villas are truly exclusive, secluded from the rest of the resort with wood fencing and doors.
It offers privacy and a relaxing atmosphere.
The two-storey unit comes with a fully-furnished hall, a room with two single beds, and a spacious bath similar to the one in Philea Suites on the ground floor, and another room on the top floor that is furnished with two king-sized beds and a bath with jacuzzi.
Private dipping pools and gazebos are also available in these units, giving guests memorable stays at the resort.
The cabins are surrounded by a man-made river and waterfall, making guests feel close to nature.
A 1.2-metre-deep pool and a wading pool is built in the middle of the "river" and is open to guests until 7.30pm.
As guests soak up the sun in the pool, they can enjoy light refreshments such as burgers and pizzas offered by the poolside food and beverage outlet, Bayu Cabana.
A special game room is also available by the poolside to cater to children who prefer to play computer and board games, as their parents opt for the pool.
The Tanjung Wellness Spa inside the resort is designed to help guests relax and unwind.
Surrounded by greenery, the spa is filled with fragrance of aromatic oils and soothing music. Here guests receive excellent spa treatments by professionals.
