LUMUT: SNR Adventures Consultant hosted the seventh Perak Columbia Iron Bound Challenge 2012 at the Marina Island Complex in Teluk Muroh, Perak recently.

The two-day event, last held at Taiping, Perak in 2009, was hosted with support from the Perak Tourism Department and the Manjung Municipal Council.

Columbia, dealers in USA outdoor activity equipment and apparels, and Best Western Marina Island Resort Pangkor were the main sponsors.

The competition offered a total cash prize of RM28,000 and featured then men's Open and mixed Open categories.

The multi-sport run-kayak-bike-abseil adventure event attracted 100 participants from the United States, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

Teams of two persons pushed themselves to the limits in the 10km run from Marina Island through the forested Ungku Busu Hill and rugged terrain along Kampung Teluk Muroh, 20km kayak to the Segari turtle management centre where a 'mystery test' of finding a table tennis ball buried in one of the 10 holes was held, hop onto their mountain bikes and cycle through Teluk Senangin to Marina Island and complete the 60-metre high abseiling feat at Teluk Batik.

Malaysian pairs, besides making a clean sweep of the top three placings in the men's Open, also finished first in the mixed Open category, while Singapore pairs made it a double by finishing second and third in the mixed Open.

Top three winners of both categories took home RM5,000, RM4,000 and RM3,000 plus sponsored products worth RM500, RM400 and RM300 respectively.

Fourth and fifth placed winners of both categories collected RM1,000 and sponsored products worth RM200 per team.

Malaysian teams under the names of BoBoi Boy from the men's Open and TZI from the mixed Open were awarded novelty prizes.
