Malls' machines accept new notes

CONVENIENT:Shopping centres have calibrated their parking machines to facilitate payment of new series of banknotes

MID Valley Megamall and The Gardens are among  the earliest shopping complexes in the Klang Valley to have fully calibrated all their auto pay machines   to accept the new Malaysian banknote series which was released on  July 16.

Mid Valley Megamall carpark manager Mohammed Rodzi Jaafar said there are 22 autopay stations (APS) for parking in Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens shopping complexes.

"All  APS were ready to accept the new series of banknotes  a day before the notes went into circulation," he said.

"The APS, however, will still  accept the old banknotes," he added.

Salmizam Awang, 34, a housewife from Kuala Lumpur, said, "I hope  more shopping complexes will follow the example of  Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens to make it convenient for  customers to  pay."

Themed "Distinctively Malaysia", the new banknotes series comprises denominations of RM1, RM5, RM10, RM20 and RM100.

The old RM50 banknote has been in circulation  since December 2007 and will continue to do so.

Before the issuance of the new notes, Bank Negara Malaysia had been working closely with financial institutions, businesses, cash handling vendors and local councils to facilitate a smooth transition to the new series.

Bank Negara officials urged all the relevant parties to expedite their machine calibrations for the convenience of the public.

Other places which have calibrated their machines include  Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd, The Curve, Alamanda Shopping Centre, Berjaya Times Square, Bangsar Shopping Centre, Central Market, Cheras Leisure Mall, Fahrenheit88, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Plaza Low Yat, Sungei Wang Plaza, Suria KLCC, Summit USJ Subang, Wangsa Walk Mall, The Mines, Tropicana City Mall, Empire Shopping Gallery,  SSTWO Mall, IOI Mall, 3 Two Square, Sogo, Lot 10, Avenue K, Viva Mall (Cheras) and  Plaza Masalam (Shah Alam).

In Malacca, Mahkota Parade and Hatten Square have upgraded their auto pay parking machines.

Machines which accept the new banknotes series bear a Bank Negara sticker.
