KUALA LUMPUR: Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur recently clinched the Asean Green Hotel Recognition Award.
The award presentation was held in Indonesia and attended by major companies and establishments.
The recognition is based on environmentally-friendly principles and energy conservation measures.
The award ceremony is held every two years. The award is a form of appreciation towards major tourism bodies for adopting the Asean Green Hotel standards.
A Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur spokesman said environmental awareness will always be a priority of the hotel in its operations, as well as in relating to the community where it is located.
Among the criteria considered in the selection process was the environmental policy and operation activities of the hotel.
The use of green products, waste management, energy efficiency, human resource development, as well as cooperation with local communities are also looked into.
Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur is certified under the ISO 14001 -- Environment Management System.
It is consistently audited and inspected yearly to strive for continual excellence and improvement.
"As Malaysia's leading hotel, we aim to continue to make a difference every day when it comes to environmental considerations.
"It plays a pivotal role in all operations so as to ensure that the products and services of the hotel is environmentally safe and friendly whenever possible," said Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur general manager, Frank Stocek.
