Marking Earth Day in the park

SEREMBAN: A total 30 staff from IJM Land recently celebrated World Earth Day by tossing 1,200 mud balls into the lake at CityPark Seremban 2 here.

They also got together to clean the recreational park which is frequented by the public on most evenings, especially the weekends.

The company's general manager for central region, Hoo Kim See, said though the activity was held a week after the actual World Earth Day which was on April 22, it was still meaningful and helped create awareness.

"As a company involved in development, we want to create a positive image and enhance awareness on the need to preserve our environment. We hope such programmes will help increase awareness, not only among our staff, but also among the public and also get more parties to come forward and participate in environmental conservation related activities," he said.

He said environmental destruction was often linked to the poor attitude of a few who did not pay any care or attention to its conservation.

He said this programme was part of the company's corporate social responsibility which was centred towards ensuring a better living environment for all and reducing unwanted wastage.

He said though the programme was comparatively a small one and only involved the company staff, he was confident it would create a positive impact for all.

"We plan on having such programmes every year among other similar activities," he added.
