Ministry reaches out to the underprivileged

PUTRAJAYA: Residents staying in the Precinct 8 neighbourhood had the opportunity to meet and break fast with Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin recently.

He broke fast with the residents at the Surau Putera Al-Amin here. The event  was one of his ministry's activities under the annual Nur Ramadan programme.

He said through the programme, the government  aims to foster closer ties and better relationship with the people on the ground.

"Like the previous years, the Nur Ramadan programme, which includes breaking fast or sahur with the people, is also aimed at helping the underprivileged, especially the poor, orphans and senior citizens," he said.  

Earlier, before adjourning to the surau to break fast with the people, Raja Nong Chik visited the Ramadan bazaar at Precinct 2.

He reminded the people to extend their help to the less fortunate and to be thankful that Malaysia is a peaceful country.

Meanwhile, at the event, he also handed out cash donation of RM100 to each of the 300 recipients who came mainly from poor families, senior citizens, single mothers and orphans.

He also gave a personal contribution of RM10,000 to Surau Putera Al-Amin to enable the committee members  further  develop the surau for the benefit of the residents.
