Mixed reactions to roundabout removal

PETALING JAYA: Plans to remove the Jalan Othman roundabout is drawing mixed reactions from residents as well as motorists as they are unsure whether the move would reduce traffic congestion.

Petaling Garden resident K. Mahadevan said the plan may work if the Petaling Jaya City CouncilĀ  implements the contra flow on the Templer-Gasing flyover which bypasses the roundabout near the BHP petrol station.

Traffic on the stretch of Jalan Templer coming from Jalan Klang Lama and the NPE do not have to head into the roundabout if they use the one-way flyover.

"The removal just puts more order to aggressive driving habits of motorists who like to cut queues. It, however, will not solve the congestion," he said.

Gary Yeoh, a resident of Gasing Heights, agreed that it would not ease traffic congestion.

"It may look a bit orderly but I doubt it would ease congestion. The only way to counter the problem is by having good public transport system," said Yeoh.
