DON’T MISS IT: The Tourism Ministry invites the public to view the Night Floral Parade in Putrajaya from June 30
THE Putrajaya Lakeside will be transformed into a magical floral wonderland for the second time running with the launch of the 1Malaysia International Night Floral Parade 2012.
This year, a total of 15 boats will be participating in the annual event, which will take place from June 30 to July 8 at Precinct 2.
The parade will be launched by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah.
The parade is held in conjunction with the Floria Putrajaya Flower of the Garden Festival, an outdoor garden and flower showcase.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said this year the ministry is expecting a million visitors to the parade as well as a large number of tourists for Floria Putrajaya.
Speaking at a briefing of the parade, Dr Ng said that the ministry will be spending RM1.5 million for the night parade that carries the theme "Magic of the Night".
The nine-day event will feature participants from around the country. The boats will be decorated with floral arrangements, colourful lights and will cruise a 3km stretch of the lake every night.
The show will also include performances and culminate in a nightly fireworks display.
After the parade, the boats will be put on static display to allow visitors a closer look. A contest on Facebook has also been planned where guests can vote for their favourite boats.
Voting categories are: overall best boat, most creative boat, best lit boat, and most popular boat.
Foreign participation in this year's event include teams from China and Kenya.
