Owner has been told to clear land

THERE is an unoccupied land beside my house in East Lake Residence in Taman Serdang Perdana, Seri Kembangan. The plot of land is unkempt with overgrown lalang.

Are there any plans to develop the land? I hope the owner can cut the lalang as it is an eyesore. It is the least he could do.

Datuk Asmawi Kasbi: The council would like to thank you for  highlighting this matter. The land is on  Lot 1813 in Taman Serdang Perdana. It is a private land spanning 0.99ha.

Based on our investigations, we found that no developments will be taking place on the land and it has been abandoned for some time. The council has also not received any application for development on that land.

The council has conveyed the complaint to the land owner and we have also issued a 14-day notice to clear the land. The council will take action under Section 82(5) Act 171 of the Local Government Act 1976 if nothing is done to improve the situation. Under the act where the person fails to obey what was stipulated in it, one can be fined not more than RM1,000 or face imprisonment of not more than six months' or both.

Besides the fine, the clearing of the land will be done by the council and the land owner will be billed.

The council hopes  land owners will take care of their properties so that it does not cause a nuisance to the public or the community.

Members of the public can channel their grouses directly to the council through our complaints line at 03-8026 4474 or  03-5637 6545.

Alternatively, you can also email us at mpsj@mpsj.gov.my.
