JEMPOL: The Jempol District Council is building a 900-metre long pedestrian walkway which links SK Bandar Baru Serting and Arked Mara Jempol to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
The walkway is built away from the main road and is lined with a fence to ensure that pedestrians do not fall victim to snatch thieves.
Council president Wan Razali Wan Awang, said the project was part of the Safe Town programme and was being built at the cost of RM298,000 with funds from the Federal government.
Work on the project began on April 16 and is expected to be completed soon.
"The walkway is being built to ensure the safety of pedestrians, especially students, and prevent accidents.
"The project is also expected to put an end to all other problems affecting pedestrians," he said.
Wan Razali said the council would work to ensure the well-being of residents.
On another development, he said Dataran Seri Jempol would be built in stages.
He said the area was being cleared and the council was waiting for allocations to move to the next phase.
