City Hall’s poor job in patching up potholes in Jalan Burung Hantu, Bandar Manjalara, has meant traffic jams, accidents and damaged vehicles over the years
AFTER the numerous potholes along Jalan Burung Hantu in Bandar Manjalara was patched up by City Hall last month, road users rejoiced over the smooth journey they expected.
But their happiness were short-lived when the road was back to its bad condition just a few days later.
The potholes cause motorists to slow down as they manoeuvre past the deepening potholes to avoid damage to their vehicles.
The result is traffic congestion right up to the nearby Damansara Puchong Highway and its toll at peak hours.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said he complained to City Hall on the poor condition of Jalan Burung Hantu on Nov 21 and it was immediately remedied.
"However, three days later, the potholes appeared again, causing traffic to snake bumper-to-bumper all the way from the LDP.
"Motorists from Sunway SPK Damansara are affected as well.
"City Hall must carry out remedial works properly," said Lim, adding that the problem has been going on for several years.
The potholes in the Jalan Burung Hantu stretch started three months ago when a contractor dug the road to carry out works.
Lim said City Hall should penalise contractors that do a poor job of patching potholes after digging roads.
The heavy traffic in Jalan Burung Hantu compounded the problem.
Sunway SPK Damansara resident Stoney Liow said accidents had occurred when motorists turn in from the LDP to Jalan Burung Hantu.
"Drivers unaware of potholes ahead do not slow down so that they knock into vehicles in front of them," he said.
Desa Park City resident Chuah Chew Huat said the potholes with sharp edges can also cause tyres to burst," he said.
