COURTING DANGER:Heritage Condominium residents want the stall in front of their entrance gate moved because it causes congestion and is a danger to motorists
RESIDENTS of Heritage Condominium in Jalan Pahang here are urging City Hall to relocate a food stall which operates in front of the condominium's entrance.
Mej (Rtd) Kirpal Singh said the hawker stall has been operating for the past one-and-a-half years.
"This is not a suitable place to run a business. It is in front of the entrance of the condominium. When patrons of the stall park here, it causes traffic congestion," he said.
Kirpal said visitors can reach the condominium entrance by taking a road which circles around Kompleks Galleria.
He said the road is used by Kompleks Galleria visitors, residents and SRJK (C) Chong Hwa pupils' parents.
Kirpal said the operator is also endangering herself and patrons because the stall was located at the corner where cars make a left turn.
He said that the narrow one-way road becomes congested when the stall opens for business.
"The stall begins operating from 6.30am to about 5pm."
He said if no action is taken, it will send out a message that hawkers can make their living anywhere they want without complying with the law.
"Does the hawker have a licence to operate the stall here? If so, how did she get the approval to carry out the business so close to the entrance?" he asked.
He claimed that the hawker had previously operated in Chow Kit with permission and believes that she is using that licence to operate in front of the condominium.
"It's not ethical to conduct the business anywhere without paying some kind of rent. The hawker is also using water from the guard house," said Kirpal.
He also claimed that City Hall workers eat there and have closed one eye regarding this issue.
"I hope this will be solved soon. After numerous complaints, City Hall petty traders and business facilitation department assistant director (1) Noor Arzmi Mohd Yusoff came here about two weeks ago for an inspection," he said.
