SUBANG JAYA: Shoppers at Mydin USJ1 were caught by surprise when personnel from the SS17 Fire and Rescue Department and the Subang Jaya Community Fire Brigade approached them recently to share safety tips.
Led by station chief deputy Supt Mohd Khairi Daud, officers and volunteers distributed Rakan Bomba leaflets on ways to prevent fires when they vacate their houses to travel to holiday destinations during the festive season, as well as when they are at home.
"House owners must make sure non-essential electrical gadgets in the house are unplugged from wall switches, and gas tanks for cooking are switched off before they leave home for the holidays.
"Bomba personnel will be on duty throughout the festive holidays, but we also want house owners to take responsibility for preventing fires," said Khairi at the walkabout.
He said only essential electrical items such as refrigerators should be left on, while others should be switched off and unplugged.
Shoppers also received leaflets on how to prevent their homes from being broken in and burgled.
The leaflets were jointly produced by the police and the Fire and Rescue Department, with funding from shopping malls, hypermarkets and hotels in Subang Jaya.
