CHEERS:The six, including a waitress, had taken part in the Win Exciting European Action Here consumer promotion by Guinness Anchor Bhd to win various European cars

IT was a good thing that five Malaysians did not miss the  telephone calls they received on their handphones recently.

This was because Guinness Anchor Bhd (GAB) representatives were calling to inform them that each  had won a luxury European car in the Win Exciting European Action Here consumer promotion.

The winners -- Tam Lim Sang, Fong Kooi Poh, Chee Chun Seong, Tee Yee Teng and Hung Chu Sieang -- will drive home in style in their Volvo S40, Peugeot 508, Volkswagen Golf TSI, Volkswagen Passat TSI and BMW X1.

In a  lucky draw earlier, GAB managing director Charles Ireland picked out the five names from the  close to 400,000 entries submitted in the promotion.

Held at GAB's The Tavern in its Sungei Way Brewery, the draw was formally witnessed by KPMG external auditors.

Just minutes after the names were drawn, GAB  immediately called the lucky  winners to verify their particulars.

When told of their win, the winners were speechless.

"We would like to thank everyone for their participation and  support. In efforts to reward our loyal consumers, we are pleased to give away these six  European cars while they continue to enjoy our range of award-winning beers throughout the promotion.

"Congratulations to all the winners," said Ireland.

Tiger marketing manager Sean Koh said the winners will be  invited for a prize presentation ceremony that will be held at Sunway Giza on Tuesday.

Another lucky draw will be carried out to determine which European car the winners can call their own, rather than have GAB assign them the cars.

"This is to be fair to all," said Koh, adding that GAB will soon organise bigger campaigns to reward their customers.

The consumer promotion, which ran from May 7 to June 30, was described by Ireland as an important  event for GAB to end its financial year in style.

Due to overwhelming response to the promotion, GAB announced the first winner in June  when restaurant waitress Wong Am Man, 59, won a BMW 320i.

All the cars, including Wong's, are worth more than RM1.2 million.

The promotion  that was carried out at coffee shops, pubs, hypermarkets and supermarkets saw consumers buying the range of GAB beers, namely Tiger, Guinness and Heineken, in order to take part in the draw and submit their entries.
