NO CHANGE: Residents still pay the same assessment rates unless there are changes to the size of premises
THE Subang Jaya Municipal Council president Datuk Asmawi Kasbi said the council has not increased the assessment rates since 1992.
Asmawi explained that houses or business premises that have undergone renovations which have led to extensions will be charged assessment according to the new size of the premises. He said this during the council's full board meeting last Wednesday.
"For example, if a terrace house with a 114 sq m build-up has undergone renovation and is now 148 sq m, we will charge the owner according to the new house size.
Asmawi added that it was the council's practice to conduct monthly inspection and update the records of each house and business premises.
Each month, a zone which falls under the council's jurisdiction, will be inspected.
First, a housing or business area is inspected by the council's authorities before the council issues a notice to the affected owner.
Then the owner will need to attend a hearing at the council and be informed of the new charges.
Asmawi added that the Batu 3 neighbourhood, which raised this issue of increased assessment rate, might have misunderstood how it's calculated.
"Usually, assessment bills are sent twice a year. This time the council has sent one bill for the entire year. Plus these houses had undergone massive renovations. So, we're charging them based on their new sizes," he said.
Asmawi said it is part of the council's routine exercise to update each premises size and determine the assessment rate.
"We have inspected Seri Kembangan, Serdang and now we are checking on houses and business premises in Subang," he said.
On a different matter, in conjunction with the National Day celebrations, the council launched the fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign.
House owners and neighbourhoods participating in this campaign can win attractive prizes.
Under the house owner's category, the public can win attractive prizes worth up to RM15,000. Among the prizes are two pieces of Samsung Tab 7.7, plasma TVs, refrigerators, washing machine and handphones.
Interested house owners are required to register by texting their details.
Neighbourhoods that are interested to participate are required to contact the council. Under the neighbourhood category, RM6,000 worth of development grants are allocated.
