MALACCA: Residents can now dispose their bulk waste such as old furniture, electrical appliances, mattresses, and other items in designated bins until Aug 15.
The special bulk waste collection service was launched on July 25 by Malacca SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM) in view of the upcoming Hari Raya.
The company had started placing large capacity bins in densely populated villages, residential and commercial areas in the state to facilitate the disposal of unwanted items.
Some 33 residential areas in Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah and Jasin districts have been identified for the initiative.
SWM manager Hisham Hussin said the collection of bulk waste would be carried out throughout Ramadan.
"We had earlier informed the residents' associations about the scheduled date to place the bins.
"Collection of waste will usually take place on the following day or within two days after placing of the bins," said Hisham.
He hoped that the waste collection service can reduce indiscriminate rubbish dumping.
However, he reminded residents not to throw their daily domestic waste into the same bin.
Locations in Melaka Tengah where bins will be placed include Taman Keris Mas, Taman Pandan Jaya, Taman Pewira, and Taman Seri Krubong Jaya, Taman Ayer Keroh Height, and Taman TAKH.
Selected residential areas in Alor Gajah are Taman Jati Indah, and Rumah Awam Pisang Mas 1 & 2.
In Jasin, the areas are Taman Maju Fasa 1, Taman Merbau Jaya, Taman Pelangi, Taman Serkam Batu and Taman Pulai Indah.
