PUTRAJAYA: The public is urged to switch off all their electrical appliances before leaving their homes for the Hari Raya celebrations.

Fire and Rescue operations division assistant director-general Datuk Soiman Jahid said the public should  check that their electrical appliances are switched off before locking up their houses.

"If there is no one at home, it is best to switch off all electrical appliances.

"This is to prevent fire which is normally caused by short circuit.

"Remove the regulator from the gas cylinder  to prevent gas leaks."

He said anyone who is involved in a road accident should get out of their car immediately, if possible, for their safety.

"After an accident, the car could catch fire due to the collision. This can lead to more injuries or even death. Get to safety and get help."

He said if the victims are immobile, the public should step forward to help them.

"However, we have to remember that the injuries could be aggravated if the victims are moved inappropriately.

"Don't get in the way of the rescue team when they arrive as time is crucial to save lives."
