WINNING EXCHANGE:NST mastheads for tickets to the ATP Malaysian Open
LOYAL readers of the New Straits Times walked away with free season passes to the ATP Malaysian Open when they showed up at Balai Berita in Bangsar, here, with a pile of the daily newspaper’s masthead.
The visitors, who were seen patiently standing in line for their season passes, were all excited as they knew they would get good seats to watch world-class tennis players like Julien Benneteau, Feliciano Lopez, Pablo Andujar, Marcos Baghdatis and Brian Baker, among others.
Twenty-eight players from all over the world, including the United States, Ukraine, Russia, Argentina, Japan, Spain and France will be taking part in the tennis tournament at Putra World Trade Centre in Bukit Jalil, here, until Sept 30.
Among those who will headline the event are crowd favourites like David Ferrer (Spain), Alexandr Dolgopolov (Ukraine), Juan Monaco (Argentina) and Kei Nishikori (Japan).
Kee Wee Chong, 34, Christian Van Defrustz, 18, and Marc Leon Herbert, 40 — all firm believers in being the “early bird that catches the worm” — were rewarded for being the first three in line at the NSTP ticket redemption counter on Sept 19.
The trio not only walked away with season passes but also exclusive passes to attend the official welcome cocktail party on Sept 25 at DoubleTree by Hilton KL. Van Defrustz, who is studying sports science at the University of Ballarat, Australia, and has returned to Malaysia for a vacation said: “I collected NST mastheads from Sept 7 to 18 to redeem the season passes and the exclusive cocktail party passes. I was waiting at the Balai Berita cafeteria since 7am as the redemption ticket counter opens around 10am.
“I’m glad that I came early as I am one of the three lucky readers who will get an opportunity to rub shoulders with famous tennis stars at the cocktail party.
“The season passes also saved me a lot of money and I am really grateful to NST for them”. Srikantha Santhirasegaran, 55, who brought his son Avinash, 15, to redeem their season passes said: “I collected NST mastheads from Sept 12 to 16 and I am happy that I can watch the tennis matches for free! Even better, all of us who queued up today were presented with gold season passes, meaning that we were all given excellent seats!”
Akhmaruzaimi Omar, 34, a chef who works at LSG Skychefs near KLIA airport said: “I am a tennis buff and my favourite players are Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and David Ferrer. I am really excited to see David Ferrer play in the tennis tournament. This is the second year in a row that I have come to Balai Berita to redeem season passes for the Malaysia Open KL games”.
Each of the season passes for the ATP Malaysian Open games entitles two people to enjoy the games throughout the tennis tournament for free. Each of the season passes are valued at RM160.
The first three in line were each given two official welcome cocktail party passes worth RM1,000.
