KUALA LUMPUR: The Sultan Ahmad Shah Environmental Trust (SASET) will be hosting its inaugural fundraising event on July 17 at the Grand Ballroom, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.

SASET was formed in 2010 with the aim to uplift  the poor while protecting and conserving the vast ecological treasures of Pahang.

The trust is under the patronage of The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah.

The trust was founded by The Sultanah of Pahang Sultanah Hajah Kalsom and Tengku Arif Temenggong Pahang.

The trust hopes to educate the public about  conserving and caring for the environment so that its natural settings are preserved.

SASET has carried out programmes which are people and nature oriented in several villages in Pahang. Programmes include "Adopt a Kampung", "Temenggong Rangers Volunteer and Emergency Response", "Greening Pahang" and "Nurture through Nature".

SASET executive director Tunku Syazwan Kaiyisah Tunku Kamil-Ikram  said the trust has a comprehensive 10-year action plan.

"We hoped to raise  funds to expand and develop our environmental and cultural conservation  programmes," she said, adding that SASET  hoped to raise RM2 million during the gala night.

"The evening will start off with a cocktail reception where supporters and advocates of the green cause will set up their booths at the foyer with proceeds from all sales  to be donated to SASET," she added.

Kaiyisah also said the trust would offer five  exclusive items for auction  during the evening including beautiful pieces of jewellery, custom-made shoes by Lewre and a special item donated by the Sultan and Sultanah.

Tables of 10 are priced between RM10,000 and RM100,000.
