KUALA LUMPUR: Mothers Day at Melia Kuala Lumpur turned out to be an exciting event for mothers to don cap and apron to showcase their skills in making teh tarik.

At the new restaurant,  The Kitchen@Melia, three mothers participated in the competition held during the recent Mothers Day High-Tea.

Halimah Osman, 62, from Damansara Heights,  Woo Gook Chee, 58, from Salak South New Village and Thoo Siek Yee, 24, from Singapore, had fun trying to prepare the beverage within the given time of five minutes.

The participants  were judged on their tea, which should be kau-kau (which is strong and tasty in local parlance) and the neatness of the preparation of the drink.

These criteria were met by Woo, who won a complimentary dining voucher at the restaurant.

Another exciting activity was a complimentary make-over session for mothers by Spicy Touch Beauty Boutique.

Make-up artist Pallavi Sritharan gave a brief demonstration and conducted simple make-overs for the mums.

She brought smiles to the faces of the mothers, who each received a certificate stating "You Are The Best Mum".

Discount vouchers and gifts of perfumes were given to mothers who answered some simple questions on cosmetics.

Champion "teh tarik" maker Gook Chee wins a dining voucher for her pains. With her are Thoo Siek Yee (second from right), Halimah Osman (third from left) and melia Kuala Lumpur staff
